Our fishing waters in Småland

Lake Tiken is considered a very interesting body of water for predator anglers in southern Sweden. The lake is approximately 6 km² in size, and many small islands are scattered throughout its surface. The populations of predatory fish, including zander, pike, and perch, are excellent: due to the very high populations of whitefish and the very good water quality, these predators grow to a considerable size.

Several pairs of ospreys make their home here. With a bit of luck, anglers can observe the parents teaching their young to hunt in the summer. Wild mink also live at Lake Tiken – and you might even spot the king of the forest, the moose, standing on the shore or swimming across the lake.

The small Brakneån River flows through the lake and empties directly into the Baltic Sea. The most common and highly successful method for catching pike and zander is trolling from a boat: lures such as wobblers, soft plastic baits, or spinners are pulled very slowly over countless promising fishing spots.

Zander inhabit the deeper parts of the riverbed – here, it's advisable to present your bait a little deeper. Classic jigging is one of the most successful methods, but dead baitfish on a predator float or with a float on the bottom often lead to success as well. Pike up to 1,30 m and zander over 1 m have already been caught in Lake Tiken – the lake is thus rightfully considered one of the XXL waters of southern Sweden, especially since there is no intensive fishing by commercial fishermen. Lake Mien is a crater lake formed by a meteorite impact approximately 121 million years ago – something truly special from the very beginning. The lake has an almost perfectly round shape with a diameter of about 5,5 km. Anyone expecting a monotonous underwater structure similar to a bathtub would be mistaken: Plate tectonics during the Ice Age created a diverse underwater landscape with islands, plateaus, boulder fields, and even a large shallow area.

The fish population in Lake Mien is magnificent. Pike and perch dominate – and both species include true giants. The perch often swim through the lake in schools; encountering such a school is a truly memorable experience. Especially in open water, perch over 40 cm are frequently found, and there are even reports of giant perch around 50 cm. Furthermore, the perch here have an extraordinary coloration: they can be almost black – this is due to the lake's unique water color, which is very clear but has a slightly rusty tinge.

The pike is also impressively dark in color and grows to considerable sizes: Pike over a meter long are caught very regularly, sometimes over 1,20 m. Their main food source is the small vendace (Swedish "sik") – so when fishing for perch, you can always expect to catch some trophy-sized pike as bycatch. In addition, some lake trout are also found in the Mien.

The lake has no public boat ramp, which minimizes fishing pressure – it's a true privilege to be able to fish here, and you're often completely alone on the vast lake. An indescribable feeling of freedom! The excellent predator fish population is one reason why Lake Mien has already been featured in well-known competitions such as Fly vs. Jerk and Perch Pro.

Even non-anglers are captivated by the beauty of this body of water: the excellent water quality and the sandy bottom in many places invite you to swim, and the Mien River offers the most beautiful sunsets in the entire region.
